This book came about as an effort to bring to the fore the tremendous advances in original research in materials and processes of researchers in the field in Malaysia. The format of the book was to invite researchers in the field to contribute their original research findings with a focus on a particular theme. Most of the researchers have been researching their field since the last fifteen years and have contributed to materials scholarship worldwide and to that in Malaysia, particularly. The Institute of Materials Malaysia considers it a duty to be the prime mover in the field of materials research and innovation in Malaysia by garnering the effort of those researchers. This book is the outcome of that belief.
The book Advances in Materials processing is planned in two volumes. The current volume is the first. The title in this volume spans the production and processing of polymers, metal and composites. The processing of polymers forms the bulk of the chapters of optical chemical sensors, radiation processing of polymers and polyamide composites. Metal processing and properties are discussed in two chapters, that of warm metal powder compaction and semi-metallic friction materials. Nanomaterials get a hearing in the chapter of its synthesis via severe plastic deformation. Injection moulding of short fibre thermoplastic composites is investigated in the first chapter. The final chapter discusses the utilisation of an agro-waste in Malaysia as a feed for ruminants as well as other by-product. The same agro-waste is also discussed as reinforcement in the chapter on the polyamide thermoplastic blends. |
