Materials Lecture Competition (MLC) 2019 brought together young and dynamic minds from across Malaysia to demonstrate their presentation skills and technical understanding in the field of materials science and engineering. Open to participants under 28 years old, the competition served as a national platform to nurture communication excellence among future materials professionals.
Hosted and co-organised by Universiti Teknikal Malaysia Melaka (UTeM) under the leadership of Assoc. Prof. Dr. Jariah Mohamad Juoi, the event was supported by Institute of Materials, Malaysia (IMM) and the Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining (IOM3), UK. The event received sponsorship from DKSH Technology Sdn Bhd, Taat Bestari Sdn Bhd, HML Auto Industries Sdn Bhd, and Zeta Scientific Sdn Bhd. Semi-Final Round Held on 4 April 2019, the semi-final saw participation from 20 universities nationwide. The event was officiated by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Zamberi Jamaludin, Dean of the Faculty of Manufacturing Engineering, UTeM.
After a competitive round, five outstanding finalists advanced to the grand finale:

3. Tan Yong Chee (UTM)
4. Ng Kok Bin (UM)
5. Siti Zubaidah Patuwan (UMS)
The final round on 30 April 2019 was officiated by Prof. Datuk Ts. Dr. Mohd Razali Muhamad, Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic & International), UTeM. The judging panel featured prominent experts including Prof. Dato’ Ir. Dr. Abdul Wahab Mohammad (UKM), Assoc. Prof. Ir. Dr. Puvanasvaran A/L A. Perumal (UTeM), Ir. Fairullizam Isahak (Syarikat Air Melaka Bhd), and Ir. William Ho (Ultra Green Sdn Bhd).
Mr. Lam Jia Yong (Universiti Putra Malaysia) emerged as the champion, followed by Mr. Tan Yong Chee (UTM) and Ms. Siti Zubaidah Patuwan (UMS) in second and third places. Consolation prizes were awarded to Ms. Siti Hajar Zaid Amri (UMK) and Mr. Ng Kok Bin (UM). Winners received cash prizes and plaques presented by Prof. Dr. Esah Hamzah, Chairperson of the IMM MLC Committee.
The event concluded with the announcement that Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) will host MLC 2020 under Dr. Norkhairunnisa Mazlan. The competition celebrated academic excellence and communication skills, with the national champion representing Malaysia at the Young Persons’ World Lecture Competition (YPWLC) 2019 in London, United Kingdom.
